Powerhouse Museum

Australia's largest and most popular museum, The Powerhouse Museum in Sydney's Darling Harbour presents exhibitions that explore science, design and history for the people of New South Wales and beyond.

A permanent exhibition, "Australia Innovates" features some of Australia's iconic brands and products in a showcase of great forward thinking by Australian designers and manufacturers. As they say,

"Australians are a clever lot. Here is a selection of the most significant innovations developed by Australians in the century since Federation"

On display you will find a whole range of Aussie ideas that have become local icons and have in many cases conquered the international market too:

Vegemite, Mambo, Hills Hoist, Victa Mowers, Sydney Opera House, World Series Cricket, Plastic Banknotes, the Cochlear Implant, the Wine Cask (!), Penicillin, the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the "Ute" are just some of the well-known inventions on exhibition at the Powerhouse.

And one of these great Aussie innovations is the original Zip Miniboil!

("Miniboil" model shown below, circa 1980)

An entirely Australian invention, the Zip Miniboil pioneered Compact Instant Boiling Water in an attractive, easy-to-install unit that was cheaper to run than a kettle!
